Teaching is a noble calling. I believe it is one of the most rewarding professions in the world. Educators greatly influence the growth and development of children into respectable citizens of the world. To achieve their professional goals, educators and teachers have to study and conduct research in early childhood education. The EdD program will prepare me to be a competent educator and help me achieve my professional goals. It will provide me with the skills and knowledge necessary for an early childhood educator.
My area of professional interest is in Bilingual Early Childhood Education. This interest has been greatly influenced and informed by my experiences as a minority. I was born in China, and my first language is Chinese. However, I know that learning using the first language is not as complicated as learning using a second language. After I moved from China, I have had to learn English as my second language to help me navigate learning in a foreign country. This has not been easy, and knowing the challenges that students from minority groups face in learning a second language has made my desire to focus on bilingual education research stronger by day.
