After joining high school, I learned several causes and the negative implications of racism in schools by engaging and interacting with students from a different social background in my school. Before joining high school, I had only interacted with white students because I went to an all-white primary school and all my neighbors were whites. This made it hard and impossible for me to establish relationships with students from other different social backgrounds. However, after joining high school, I participated in several clubs such as the debate and key club which provided me with an opportunity of connecting and interacting with other different students.
One evening after completing our debate club meeting, Akarsh, Purity and I engaged in a dialogue about the few cases of racism which had been reported in the school. Akarsh was an Indian boy while Purity was an African-American girl. I was interested in understanding the issues which contributed to the rising cases of prejudice and discrimination on basis of race in the school as well as their possible implication. I asked Akarsh and Purity to provide their views and suggest what should be done to solve this problem.
