Growing up, I had aspirations to join the healthcare industry because I grew up thinking I wanted to be a doctor like my best friend. However, a chance encounter changed the course of my plans and inspired me to enter the business world. While in high school, my auntie invited my friend and I to accompany her to a business conference in our locality and later go to see a movie. I was not particularly interested, but when the second speaker came on, his message resonated with me. Vividly, I remember he was mentoring on performance reviews, and how they enhance employee engagement and morale. He encouraged managers to develop creative methods of appraising employees in a way that does not cause resentment and conflicts. At that conference, I learnt a lot about management and it inspired me to become close to my auntie and learn more about the business world.
In college, I pursued a degree majoring in business administration and marketing. After my undergraduate studies, I felt that continuing my education provides an opportunity to build my knowledge on business administration. My short-term goal is to acquire a master in business administration (MBA). Upon completion of a master’s degree, I will have the knowledge and skills required to build my career in management. I intend to pursue a career as a Product Manager in the financial industry such as Wells Fargo & Company or a technology firm like Oracle Corporation or Amazon Inc. My goal is to be involved in product development and its marketing processes. I desire to be at the forefront sketching out the details on how to improve or design a new product through innovative ideas.
My responsibilities as a Product Manager will involve managing a product through its lifecycle, beginning with data gathering, research, development, understanding consumer needs, defining the product vision, working closely with product engineers, and putting out a winning product. During my undergraduate degree, I interned in a financial firm where we were involved in developing a new insurance product to target individuals newly joining the job market.
