I'm wanted to get in to the USC's Master's program for Social Worker. They need the Statement of Purpose. Let me tell you a little about myself. I have a Bachelors of Fine Arts way back home, however I took some classes here as well. I finished my LVN but not Licensed, I finished my AA in Liberal Arts and Sciences.
I'm a wife of a Veteran. I'm currently working for the Department of Veterans Affairs has really given me a greater understanding of and respect for our Vets. I love working in a place where you are helping patients who have given so much to this country. It’s rewarding to be able to give back to them when they gave so much to us.
Topic #1:
Describe your understanding of the social work profession and its core values. How have you incorporated social work values in your human service experiences and interactions with others?
What significant relationships and life experiences have you had in giving or receiving help that have motivated you to enter the field of social work?
What personal qualities equip you for the social work profession? Discuss your experiences and feelings about working with populations different from your own.
Topic #2:
The USC School of Social Work is dedicated to providing excellent graduate education for people destined to create social change. What social welfare areas interest you and why? What social problem most concerns you that might be addressed with an MSW?
Topic #3:
Please discuss your career goals. What do you expect to be doing in five years and 10 years? How will your chosen department and practice area help you reach your personal/professional goals and future contributions as a social worker? Include why the USC School of Social Work is a good fit for your goals.
Topic #4:
The rising cost of higher education today is a key concern for the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work and we work closely with our students to ensure they understand the financial implications of graduate study. Given the variety of ways to fund your education, please describe in detail your personal plan to finance your education including what steps you have made to obtain necessary funding.
Topic #5:
Field education is a core pillar of the Master in Social Work program. Our curriculum includes 1,000 hours of field placement conducted over 4 semesters. What is your plan for managing your personal and professional obligations while completing the required field placement?

Statement of Purpose
The social work profession makes for one of the fields that play a significant role in promoting social change across the social, political, and economic dimensions in society. Social workers function to promote equality among individuals or groups by attending to their diverse needs and demands. Among such needs or demands include advocating for the rights and freedoms of disadvantaged individuals or groups and promoting the welfare of children, families, and youths. Delivery of services to the disadvantaged groups demands embracing a range of values that are integral to the effective delivery of services to address the needs of such individuals or groups. As a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the Department of Veterans Affairs, I have learned to be compassionate and respectful to the unique differences of other individuals. As individuals entrusted with the vulnerabilities of the disadvantaged individuals and groups, it is also important to be self-less, competent, and embrace high levels of integrity in delivering the diverse services required by such entities. Engaging with veterans, at home and the Department of Veterans Affairs, enhanced my ability to familiarize and empathize with their different situations or needs, which allows them to trust me and establish a good relationship for effective service delivery.
The USC School of Social Work is known for its remarkable work and research in a wide range of social welfare areas, including homelessness, death, and bereavement, mental wellness, as well as military families and veterans. My experience with the veterans creates a special interest in the affairs of veterans and military families as I purpose to gain more knowledge and insight into their diverse needs. Being the wife of a veteran gives me first-hand experience of their needs, and I would like to offer my services towards addressing their diverse needs. I also take an interest in the field of crisis and bereavement to help military families to deal with the event of death or loss of loved while in active duty.
