My love for nursing grew in my formative years, and my family’s owned hospital in China reinforced my interest in the field. Nonetheless, the profession has changed over time as technology has improved medical care, but the ethical principles governing nursing are still the same. Nowadays, the profession is more diverse than ever before, which makes the career challenging, but also worthwhile. Even though, I grew up in China, nursing upholds universal values, and I believe that through compassionate care I will be able to work anywhere as a registered nurse. Being a College student, I now wish to transfer to University of Washington and major in Nursing, which I believe is best suited for me in my attempt to gain knowledge and work as a nurse.
My interest in the nursing profession is complimented by my academic background and experiences, which I believe will improve my research skills in the practical aspects of nursing. I have had a tremendous opportunity to interact with various people in the nursing profession, right from high school. In essence, my father’s hospital provided me with the first opportunity to experience how specialists and medical practitioners work in a hospital setting. Similarly, in High school I was good in biology one of the building blocks of nursing. Consequently, I have consistently being among the top students in biology from High School, up to the College level. Equally, I enjoyed both psychology and sociology courses, which also compliment nursing at higher levels of education.
In many cases, many people view nurses as assistants to medical doctors, but my experience in my father’s hospital showed me that this view was wrong. One of the most profound experience occurred during a time when accident victims had been brought to hospital following a motor vehicle accident. Being on Saturday, the hospital had only three working nurses, but three others were able to arrive at the emergency room within a span of one hour. Essentially, this experience opened my eyes on the tremendous work that nurses do in their line of duty Most of the doctors were consultants who came on appointment making it hard to rely on them in case of an emergency, but nurses were able to mobilize their colleagues to attend to the patients. Even under extreme working conditions, it is clear that nurses not only state that they are caring, but they show compassionate care to all patients. Nurses need not merely take their work as a duty, but should also view nursing as a service to the community.
I wish to choose nursing major in the University of Washington, as this would allow me to be a nurse, while also facilitating me to offer my services as a registered nurse. I am naturally inclined to help others, and being a nurse would allow me to interact with diverse people. Thus, as a compassionate person being a nurse will let me to achieve my ambition prof...
