Bennet, Steve. 4 Ways Government can Use AI to Track Coronavirus. GCN. 2020. https://gcn.com/articles/2020/03/10/ai-coronavirus-tracking.aspx. Accessed March 12, 2020.
In his article titled 4 Ways Government can Use AI to Track Coronavirus, Bennet offers four simple ways through which the government can make use of AI especially while dealing with modern threats like the Coronavirus. With global health at risk, Bennet notes that AI can be used to make predictions based on data about known viruses and humanity’s practices. The government can also make use of AI to detect the killer virus and hasten response time through the development of new treatments. Lastly, Bennet mentions how AI can be used for analyses to help ensure that all loopholes are shut, and the world avoids further outbreaks.
Bennet’s article is quite thorough in the way it approaches the topic. He wastes little time before getting to his four main points which are also well-articulated. One thing that Bennet does and that is a strength in the article is to make use of his experience as the former director of the National Biosurveillance Integration Center in the Department of Homeland Security. Additionally, albeit few, Bennet also makes use of some sources. In making use of the article, I will showcase how the government can make use of AI and not necessarily while dealing with diseases but also other issues of global significance.
Buest, Rene. Artificial Intelligence is not a Threat to Human Society. CIO. 2018. /article/3246291/artificial-intelligence-is-not-a-threat-to-human-society.html. Accessed March 12, 2020.
Buest is a believer and in his article titled Artificial Intelligence is not a Threat to Human Society he makes it known to the world that he indeed believes in AI. In this article, Buest mainly seeks to dispute negative comments and issues raised against AI. Throughout the article, he makes it clear that AI is not a bad addition to the world and that what humanity should be worried about is their impatience. His goal is simply to see the world prosper but humanity’s impatience is getting in the way. He also mentions how far humanity is from realizing perfect AI.
The article takes a very subjective approach to the topic and it does not at any time honor or consider counterarguments. Whenever these appear, they are to showcase or to strengthen the article’s main point. The above can be taken as a weakness. Additionally, there is a lack of sources that makes the article more like an opinion piece. However, I believe that it can still play a part in my project. This article will help to further my explanation that AI is not in any way harmful, and is rather helpful and a great asset to humanity.
