The increased popularity of Cholula hot sauce has been aided, in part, by a successful social media and word-of-mouth program. Cholula has managed to effectively compete and grow its market share and profitability in the already crowded U.S. hot sauce market. Determining how that has been accomplished is the basis for this unit’s assignment.

Analyze the Best Global Practice case study, “Cholula: America’s Hottest Sauce,” on pages 76 and 77 in the textbook.

Complete the tasks below, which are associated with the case study in the textbook.

Case Analysis: Cholula Hot Sauce
The Cholula initially launched in the US market specifically Southern California and Texas in 1989. With minimal time, the hot sauce attained a significant market share and growth in the region (Nicks, 2016). According to (Cholula Hot Sauce, 2020), six types of Cholula sauce marketed in the Northern side of America including Chili Lime, Sweet Habanero, Chili Garlic, Original, Green pepper, and chipotle to hit the market demand and attain an advantage to earn high lucrativeness in the region.
Profitability Analysis
For evaluating the profitability of the Cholula Hot Sauce, analyzing the competitive intensity of the firm is a significant measure to propose future strategies in attaining extended market share in the hot sauce sector. Hereafter, Porter’s five forces are the prolific tool to determine the competitive intensity of Cholula.
The threat to entry. Due to limited investment and restrictions on the hot sauce business, the threat to enter the market is low and it can bring threatening situation for the present dealers if high quality and attractive taste sauce appeared in the US region (IBIS, 2020). Hence, Cholula needs to maintain its taste and quality to be competitive.
Rivalry. As per the study of (Segran, 2015), the presence of multiple hot sauces companies including Gochujang, Thai Sriracha, and Tabasco are extremely competitive for Cholula to attain a high market share in Northern America. Therefore, high availability and differentiation in product and branding will support the sauce company to achieve success such as the organic social media campaign.
The threat of substitutes. The growing shift towards the hot sauce sector in the US offered progressive results in maintaining the threat of substitutes for Cholula. Hence, the threat is moderate in the US region. According to Ferdman and King (2014), the significant demand for hot sauces especially Cholula Mexican hot sauce in the US, which makes it billion-dollar market, which replaces other condiments including BBQ sauce, mustard, ketchup, and mayonnaise.
Supplier’s bargaining power. In the hot sauce sector, the supplier plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality standards of the sauce and variation in its ingredients creates negative impulse in the market (Segran, 2015). Thereby, suppliers have strong bargaining power for which Cholula should develop a strong relationship with suppliers to limit cost and advance quality.
Buyer’s bargaining power. The inclining rate of the hot sauce sector in America, the numbers of businesses are further increasing which reduce the bargaining power of buyers on a larger scale (Segran, 2015). The bargaining of buyers is moderate, which provides the benefit of escalating profit on minimal terms.
