The ultimate goal of every business is to make profits. In order to achieve this goal, there are various guidelines that must be put in place. A code of ethics is a legal guideline which governs the operations of organizations. Codes of ethics vary from one organization to another. Starbucks and MacDonald’s both fall in the category of hospitality. Yet, being different entities, they have varying codes of ethics. This discussion takes a brief look at the code of ethics that govern Starbucks and MacDonald’s.
Starbucks
Starbucks is a company whose specialty is coffee and has its basis in America. The company has since expanded to become chain-house of coffee. It is one of the largest in America and other parts of the world, commanding a large market share. The company has code of ethics that stipulate both in-house operations and relationship between the company and its publics (David, 2011). One of the issues that is extensively covered by the code of the ethics of Starbucks is environmental conservation. More often, businesses tend to degrade the environment as they seek to minimize the cost of production. Starbucks however remains committed to conserve the environment (David, 2011). The code of ethics therefore requires all stakeholders and partners of Starbucks to comply and conserve the environment.
The code of ethics also elaborates on the manner in which employees of the organization are to relate with one another (David, 2011). Starbucks, in tandem with the provisions of the human rights worldwide, advocates for equal treatment of all employees. The company does not discriminate any employee based on any affiliation.
