Nourishing the body is the main purpose of the heart. It fulfills its function by pumping the blood to all parts of the body. Heart failure does not however mean that the heart stops to function completely, it simply refers to a condition where the heart is not to pump sufficient blood to meet the needs of the various parts of the body. This is usually caused by weak heart muscles or defects to the veins thus hindering proper flow of blood within the body. This may result to a kidney failure since not much of the blood will be filtered. Unfiltered fluids from the blood will then build in the lungs. Subsequently, they (fluids) are deposited in the liver, lungs or around the eyes at times in the legs. This kind of situation leads to a condition referred to as “Congestive Heart Failure.” (Congestive Heart Failure. (n.d.)).
In a case study of Mr. P, a 76year old man with cardiomyopathy and CHF symptoms, the essay discusses the approach to his treatment, care and education to his family. Mr. P also has other ailments attributed to his illness—mostly social and financial problems which continue to aggravate his situation.
Mr. P including psychological problems which has adversely affected his social life is largely attributed to his CHF condition and finance problems. In addition to the numerous social problems, he also suffers from edema; difficulties in breathing apparently due to his heart problem. Mr. P’s despondency is a clear indication that he is suffering psychologically. His wife is also depressed with the situation as Mr. P is the provider to the family. To make the matters worse, his complaisance towards treatment does not make the matter alleviate his problems. His condition therefore needs a comprehensive approach in addressing the ailment, social and psychological problems and probably financial problems they face.
According to the case study, Mr. P’s problems mainly revolve under the financially depleted situation he is in.
