The General Motors also known as GM is a world known automotive company and it is one of the leading companies in automobiles. The CEO failed in looking at the cause of the problem and not firing workers now and then. (Holacracy, 2016) The new CEO of the company is Mary Barra.
The Leadership Theory
Many people believe that they are born to lead while others believe that leadership skills in a person can generated from within an individual. The leader is supposed to follow the norms, values and beliefs of the organization in which he or she is working for. The inborn leader believes that he has to stick to his ways of leading or governing.
The leadership style used in the company was autocratic where a single person has the power to influence the decision-making processes and very little options are given to others to comment in making of the decisions. This type of leadership leads towards destructive work performance and low levels of motivations among the employees. Leadership change was vital to build the trust and to unite the work force in support of their consumers. It was also necessary to change the leadership because the other style had let them down for 11 years.
Media services are attracted to problems in the organizational culture as well as the leadership style in the organization. The media also put much pressure on the organizational culture and leadership style impacting boosts for the company to change its environmental culture. The employees also show no gratitude and lack of cooperation with the organization hence leading to change in the structural, cultural and procedural make-up of the entire organization.
In the autocratic leadership the administration, no one who was ready to admit their mistakes and blame somebody else for the errors made. This leads to neglect of duties and responsibilities due to the blame games. For example the ignition switch problem persisted for over 11 years and those responsible to fix the problem never took the problem urgent to fix. There are many external and internal influences that led to change of regime in the organization.
