A Case Study of Wal-Mart and the Grievances Faced by its Employees Abstract I look into the author`s viewpoint of Wal-Mart, and the areas in which he finds fault with the company, including: off-the-clock work, sexual discrimination, health benefits, the role of unions and the "Great Union Wall of China", use of illegal aliens in workplaces and finally, child and other labor laws. I then discuss four questions for thought. A Case Study of Wal-Mart and the Grievances Faced by its Employees The author looks at Wal-Mart from the viewpoint of the aggrieved employees.He`s also a bit sarcastic, as in the title, he refers to Wal-Mart favorably as "giving its employees a 10 per cent discount" while, to the contrary,he sheds light on various employee grievances through the entirecase study. To elaborate further, I need to look into the points given. In the first topic, he talks about howthousands of employees filed lawsuits against Wal-Mart as many of them were made to work overtime without receiving any financialcompensation. This portrays the company as being highly stingy (Stanwick & Stanwick 2009). The second topic is about how female employees are the majority, yet they have the fewest managerial positions. The author even goes as far as to quote one of the Wal-Mart officials who say that "they don`t feel like women are interested in taking up managerial positions in the company. This portrays the company as being sexually biased. The third topic is about Wal-Mart`s health benefits, wherethe company`s benefits are lower than the national average in large corporations, new employees have to wait half a year to apply for health benefits and retired employees aren`t eligible to be part of t...
