!!!Your Job is to write Section 3 only!!!
Structure
Assessment 3 is a SINGLE GROUP PROJECT, to be developed, completed, and submitted collaboratively. For this task, think of yourself as one member of a team assembled to research, analyse, reflect upon, and submit a report on the issue you selected to work on for A2. All team member for A3 will have worked on the same topic for A2.
Once you commence work on the project (week 5), your group should see your tutor as a project consultant, who will be there with you throughout the development process, working with your group to sharpen ideas, focus your intentions, and develop a workable scope, framework, and set of outcomes. Your tutor is also a project manager in the sense that they discuss the function of the group, the collaboration process, and the responsibilities of each member. Your group will also have two tutorial workshops dedicated to Assessment 3.
Each section should include at least five academic sources, and an appropriate number of other sources (check with your tutor if you are need further guidance on this). References should be added at the end of each section in a bibliography.
Your project must take the following form:
Section 1: Background and Context (1000w)
As a group you need to take the time to investigate your topic and object of analysis. Ask yourself: what has brought us to this current issue? What historical narrative and/or set of historical conditions give rise to this issue? Your Background and Context must include a bibliography with 5 academic sources (either consulted or explicitly referenced) that have aided your group in developing the context section. An academic source is research-based and reviewed by other academics prior to publication. An academic source is generally therefore referred to as having been “peer-reviewed” and meets an agreed-upon standard of research achievement.
Section 2: Stakeholders and Perspectives (1000w)
Who are the leading authorities on this topic? What are their opinions, and why? How do their opinions reflect historical contexts and debates that have informed this topic? In what way will your analysis of these perspectives inform your final project?
In developing this section, you also have the option to interview or consult an authority within the field. This might be an academic or somebody external to the university.
Section 3: Case Study 1 (1000w)
Your case study should analyze one example or ‘case’ that demonstrates the subject of your project. Think of your case study as one example of the way in which your topic/issue has given rise to debate.
Each case study further enhances your group’s research into the topic as it provides a real-life application of your analysis.
our group's proposal is attached, please refer to slide 4 and 5 on what you need to write about.

Case Study: Kanye West vs. Cancel Culture
Kanye West remains one of the most talented hip-hop artists in America and the whole world. However, over the past few years, his reputation has been marred with controversial statements. While such stunts are nothing new with artists, West seems to have gone too far. Kanye's a cancellation by the mainstream media started in 2018. It followed West's proclamation that slavery was a choice for blacks. He did not understand how all African Americans were enslaved for 400 years. Moreover, West has also openly proclaimed his love for Trump. He suggested that he admired Trump because he defied norms and expectations (Schwarz 2018). In its attempt to demonstrate its support for the black community, the mainstream media criticized West's statement on slavery. Also, the mainstream media denied West the much-needed exposure to propagate his support for Trump. For the people affected by Trump's policies, West presented a degree of harm to them. The mainstream media canceled West by denying him the many appearance opportunities that he enjoyed before.
The cancellation divided his fan base into two major categories. Some of the fans distanced themselves from him. Individuals opposed to racism felt the need to disassociate themselves from West. At the same time, some of the fans who did not support Trump's policies felt offended that West openly supported Trump and even going to the extent of wearing a "Make America Great Again" cap. West then started to support the likes of Alex Jones and Candace Owen, which was inexcusable for the left-leaning fans. On the other hand, some fans remained to defend him. They did not see anything wrong with West having an opinion on any issue, leave alone slavery (Schwarz 2018). As black, these fans felt that West had the liberty to view the issue. These fans also did not have a problem with the artist supporting Trump, since he too, like all the other Americans, was entitled to his opinion.
Kanye West should be canceled. His cancellation is a demonstration that the mainstream media is concerned about the feelings of the people. His cancellation on social media indicates the collective power that people hold over celebrities and brands. The move demonstrates that while it is the same people who elevated him to the current economic and social status, they can ignore him. People may have no power over his actions, but canceling him indicates that they can choose to ignore him. Celebrities cannot afford to take their fans for granted (Anderson-Lopez, Lambert and Budaj 2021). Cancellation is the only means fans can show solidarity in preventing influential people from moving society in the wrong direction.
Critics are divided on the cancellation of West. One divide thinks that West's cancellation may not have much impact on his career. Cancellation tends to be temporary, especially where a celebrity can remove the cancellation and redeem themselves. Used wisely, it is a power play that ca...
