I think re-naming hurricanes after the oil and gas companies is a good idea. Just like Bill McKibben noted in the documentary, it is unfair to name these horrific occurrences after women who have done nothing to cause them Fox (2016). Over the years the United States’ gas and oil companies have destroyed the climate by emitting high levels of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere through the burning of coal, which then traps air into the atmosphere altering the climate. Thus, these hurricanes should have names of the organization that causes them.

After an increase in temperature by 1°C, the glaciers and ice caps begin to melt, the movement of water in the world changes and the warming of the country becomes faster than it has been in the last 10,000 years. Also, it results in an increase in the wetness of the atmosphere by four percent, which then comes down in the form of heavy rains and floods, which cause destruction Fox (2016).

When the temperature rises by 2°C, the sea level will rise between five to nine meters high, a significant number of the population all over the world particularly those living at the coastline will have to move as their homes and cities will be under water. Once these surrounding are under water, there will be an upsurge of refugees within the countries and its borders as land shrinks. Agriculture will seize to exist, and drought will become a disaster in most parts of the world.

The current changes present today include; polluters increasingly putting the lives of the population at risk, climate change has become a bigger problem, and extreme weather such as hurricanes, worsening of snow falls, and tornados have occurred. Cases of drought have increased all over the world, exacerbating the issue of food insecurity, which has resulted in civil war due in places such as Syria. Consequently, more people have become refugees, and security threats have increased. Also, there has been a loss of habitats and migration of species and bleaching of coral leaves Fox (2016).

Changes likely to occur in the future include; the increase in temperature to between 3.5 to 5°C, deaths due to heat waves will increase from the over seventy thousand deaths documented in Europe, and an increase in onset of tropical ailments such as Malaria and Dengue fever. Additionally, there will be acidification of the ocean, which will kill species and plants in the ocean while 30 to 50% of all world species will face extinction.

The indigenous people in the Amazon are not happy about the oil companies who have made their habitat a drilling ground for oil. According to the people, these companies are out to destroy their habitat and their way of life by destroying the forest where they get leaves and plants for medical use and polluting the waters through oil spillage, making the fish inconsumable Fox (2016).

The Amazon is referred to as carbon sink as it breathes in carbon dioxide and contains carbon dioxide produced by the population, animals, industrial processes, and modes of transportation, creating a balance on earth.
