Positive reinforcement involves rewarding behaviors that are desirable while negative reinforcement aims at removing specific stimuli to encourage a behavior (Lee & Axelrod, 2005). Reinforcement can be applied in our everyday lives in different environments, such as at home, school, or work. Examples of reinforcement in these environments include: Home Positive reinforcement: A perfect example of positive reinforcement is when a parent praises or rewards a child for successfully completing the assigned chores. On that note, the chances that this child will keep undertaking the chores without complaining and completing them on time are high. Negative reinforcement: A parent or a caregiver may decide to stop nagging their child when they are done with their assignments. This reinforces the behavior of the child to complete their assignments on time because the parent has stopped nagging, which is a stimulus. School Positive reinforcement: When a teacher gives a student some extra time to relax as a reward or a stimulus for completing assignments on time or performing extremely well. Specifically, positive reinforcement can be used to promote desired behaviors at school or eliminate disruptive behaviors that might hinder students from exceling in their academic activities (Rafi, Ansar, & Sami, 2020).
