Children from immigrant families have often faced many challenges, especially when they immigrate into new countries from countries that are considered to have inferior/minority races. Some of these challenges lead to trauma in these children. This is because most children are inclusive, and they love a familiar environment. Drastic changes to their surroundings bring about stress in these children, which changes their natural behavior exponentially, making them introverts in nature before adjusting to their new environment. It is quite unfortunate that some of these children retain this behavior even unto maturity. The United States is a country with diverse cultures and several races, and children from immigrant families often struggle to blend in with the rest of the other children in schools, neighborhoods, and other social places.
Types of trauma children of immigrant families experience in the United States.
Trauma is deep distress or disturbing experience that often affects the mental health of an individual. Trauma leads to depression, withdrawal and at times, it causes death. In children from immigrant families, these are some of the circumstances that lead to trauma: low family income, language barrier, and poor academic performance once they enter their new schools, and low parental education, especially if these families have immigrated into the new country for greener pastures and better opportunities CITATION Lyn11 \l 1033 (Lynn A. Karoly, 2011). As a result of this issue, several programs have been created to ensure these children transition with ease and carefully blend in with their new countries' social norms. An example of these programs is the Early Care and Education (ECE) program. It is saddening that most of the insecurities associated with immigration hinder access of these children from immigrant families to these early childhood education programs. A good example of these insecurities includes improper documentation, which declares some of these families as illegal immigrants. Some immigrants hold dear their cultural values and norms, such as first shaping their children culturally before taking their children to school for formal education. Another challenge that hinders these immigrant parents from enrolling their children in Early Care Education (ECE) programs is the lack of adequate funds.
