Separation from a parent or parents for the military children leaves them vulnerable because they are forced to be part of a dynamic cycle of recurrent moves. Some are even more multifaceted. Upon deployment, children are forced to move closer to extended families, which sparks emotions and behavioral changes. The five phases of deployment (pre-deployment, deployment, sustainment, redeployment, and post-deployment) cause emotional withdrawals that may intensify and leave the children sad, anxious, or overwhelmed. Such emotions change upon the parent's return, where the children feel excited and relieved during this honeymoon period.
