Writing Learning Objectives and Standards

Thread 1: Writing Learning Objectives ( DISCUSSION 1 )
Choose a standard for any subject area. List the specific standard you have chosen (copy and paste it from the standards site). Then, create 3 learning objectives that would help students to meet that standard.
Here is my example from Kindergarten Literacy.
Standard:
• CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.K.3 With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story.
Objectives:
Students will be able to (SWBAT):
• describe the changes the caterpillar experiences in The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
• identify the caterpillar as the main character in the story.
• compare a caterpillar to a butterfly.
Thread 2: Standards. ( DISCUSSION 2)
Choose a particular grade level and subject that you seek to teach.
Using the standards links provided in the "Important Resources" folder (under Course material), access the appropriate standards and read them over, along with the grade levels before and after the one you chose.
So, for example, let's say you chose fourth grade ELA. Read through those standards and then for third and fifth grade as well.
Then, please share the following:
• Grade level and subject you chose.
• A quick overview of some of the major things kids need to be able to do.
• A quick overview of the progression you are seeing across the three grade levels—how do they build their understandings based on the standards?
• Did anything surprise you? Was anything confusing?
Reply to others with any insights, ideas, suggestions, or connections you can make.
include:
• Course concepts, theories, or materials correctly included.
• Examples or supporting evidence from course readings and lectures.
• Application of relevant professional, personal, or other real-world experiences to extend the dialogue.
• Support and valid position with applicable knowledge from course readings and other sources.
