Inflammation refers to the body’s response to foreign bodies that threaten its balance such as injuries, infections and toxins. During an injury, the body responds by changing its circulatory process. This response is fueled by the mechanical stimulus that transmits signals to the smooth muscle cells on the pre-capillary arterioles. The smooth muscle cells of the arterioles in turn serve as sphincters and control the amount of blood flowing into the capillaries.
After the blood flow has been initiated, the mediators of inflammation activate the Hageman factor, which results in the processing of bradykinin, plasmin, and fibrin that increase the vascular permeability, thrombolysis, complement activation, and clotting respectively (Ivan, 2017).
