Healthcare sector has been grappling with the best ways of ensuring quality life, providing the best treatment and diagnostic options that is efficient and cost effective by increasing innovation. Quality healthcare can be viewed as the extent whereby health services for individuals are increased in relation to the desired health outcomes that are consistent with the standard professional knowledge. Medical errors are associated with faulty processes and systems, but not personnel. If the laid process is inefficient in that it has differences in provider education and experience among other complex factors, then the system cannot deliver the desired healthcare outcomes (Donabedian, 2003).
According to the Institute of Medicine, the current healthcare processes are below standard because not all systems consider safety, they are not patient-centered, they are not timely, effective, and efficient, and they are not equitable (Gordon, &Wasson, 2007). An effective healthcare system should be designed to enhance doctor-patient relationships, reduce physical workload, instill patients’ sense of responsibility, and increase face-to-face time among doctors and patients, cutting greatly on wastage of funds. It is a model that should optimize any small work unit to deliver excellent care to patients so long as the key principle is to follow high quality, patient-centered and collaborative care, which is free and continuous, considered efficient (Gordon, &Wasson, 2007).
Healthcare innovation is the introduction of new ideas, new processes, service of product aimed at improving the entire healthcare features like outreach, prevention, research, diagnosis, education and treatment. All these are geared towards improving quality management in healthcare setting. To reduce the challenges associated with quality management in healthcare systems for the benefit of patient, system failures should be addressed by adopting improved process strategies that can indentify inefficiency, ineffective care and some of errors that are preventable in order to influence change within the healthcare system. These strategies include assessing performance and using the findings to update the changes. Assessing quality means observing the health structure, its process, and outcomes. When assessing structure accessibility, availability and quality of resources are observed for example health insurance, bed capacity, and number of health personnel with higher training.
