Research, in nursing, is defined as a methodical identification of the problems inherent in the field of nursing, with an objective of finding all the alternative solutions to the problems. The problems may be those that absolutely have no solutions, or those whose solutions are not efficient enough and require augmentation. Most of the research done in nursing are discipline aligned and are used to deliver proof that support nursing practice (Parahoo, 1997).
On the other hand, research utilization refers to the dissemination, combining and solicitation of the research spawned information to effect positive alterations in the contemporary nursing practices. It refers to the application of some elements of a study in the nursing discipline that are different from original research. Research utilization is based on a special continuum that involves identification of the information requiring research, assessment of the research findings and final attempts to find the use of the knowledge in the nursing practice(Parahoo, 1997).
