Over the recent past, there has been a continued utilization of technology in various sectors of the healthcare industry in efforts to promote the provision of cost-effective and quality care. Technology has been an integral part in the successful implementation of many healthcare projects either through supporting the forces driving change or via integration. There have also been consultative and substantial efforts to incorporate information technology into evidence-based practice projects. EBP entails the making of sound and informed decisions by integrating clinical expertise, best research evidence, and patient values and preferences. In that regard, information technology has been embraced to foster the decision-making process.
One of the latest technological innovations that have had a substantial impact on the medical processes and EBP projects is the digitization of healthcare records (Sears, 2006).
