The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) became law in 2010 but was fully implemented in 2014 (Rosenbaum, 2011). The Act has helped in transforming access if health care across the United States. Besides, PPACA was developed together with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, and they are both referred to as the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The consumer protections associated with the PPACA have helped in the elimination of poor practices in the health insurance industry, such as charging more and denying individuals coverage because of their pre-existing health conditions.
Implementation of PPACA facilitated the provision of subsidies and exchanges. The Act allowed the state to increase the payment rates for primary care physicians who accepted Medicaid. Additionally, the Act also expanded to accommodate low-income individuals.
