Needs assessment is the most critical part of an effective training session. Needs analysis is conducted to collect, conduct, analyze, and assess the training needs of the employees. The purpose of the needs assessment is to determine whether there is a need for training to take place. The needs analysis in this paper is for Target Company, which is facing challenges with floor managers. The department is losing junior staff, and there has been an increase in turnover rates in the recent past. The analysis is done in steps with specific examples to determine the depth of concern for training in the company.
a) Organizational Support Analysis
Organizational support analysis is done to determine whether the top management in the company will support the training. Organizational support analysis will be conducted to determine the relationship between the floor managers and the top management. The analysis will be conducted to determine if the problem with the floor management starts at the top. The data collection will take the form of questionnaires. The purpose of using questionnaires is to conceal the identity of participants to avoid confrontation. Participants in this analysis include direct managers that will oversee the training, employees to be trained, upper and middle management, and other key people in the organization that is interested in the training. The expectation from this training is that top management will support the training because turnovers are expensive for the company.
b) Organizational Analysis
The organizational analysis will be conducted to identify the reasons why junior staff members are leaving the organization. This analysis will be conducted at the organizational level by concentrating on the resource and time frame for training. The overall purpose of the organizational analysis is to assess the climate of the environment where training will take place. As a result, the organizational analysis will narrow down to identifying long-term and short-term goals, identifying the people that will benefit from the new KSA training, the legal constraints that are likely to crop up during the training, technology in the organization, and the available budget for conducting the needs analysis. In the organizational analysis, the following questions will be used to narrow down to the main issue in the organization:
Does the company have a strategic work plan for its employees?
Is there an appraisal system?
Does management provide a clear and specific job description for its employees?
What type of training strategy is available for the organization?
