Age Diversity and Glass Ceiling
The phrase "glass ceiling," first popularized in the 1980s, refers to imaginary and artificial barriers preventing women from advancing in their occupations and society. The United States Congress learned in 1991 that women are underrepresented in senior management positions within corporations with a steadily growing presence on the labor market and that these fabricated barriers were impeding their advancement.
Although a glass ceiling is a visible form of discrimination against women, the stained-glass ceiling is entirely a pervasive obstacle that restricts women clergy to lower-status roles in religious organizations and prevents them from growing to assistant, junior, and co-pastor roles.
