Gender identity has been one of the common topics discussed in the society. Some people claim that gender identity is a result of biology, while others claim that it is influenced by the culture that the person has grown up in. Even though these can be seen as opposing views, both claims carry some weight. For instance, in biology, pre and post-natal hormone levels that the person has are likely to influence the person's gender identity (Falck et al., 2020). Furthermore, the individual genetic makeup is also likely to influence the gender identity of the child. On the other hand, the culture that the child is living in is likely to influence the child’s gender identity. For instance, if the child is living in a society that rewards imitating the same gender while punishing imitating the other gender, the child would likely maintain gender identity. Both biology and culture can, therefore, play a critical role in influencing the child's gender identity.
