To elicit a response with MAC table entries, one can type the command "show mac-address-table" from the User Mode or Enable Mode. The "show" commands are usually only used in viewing system or configuration-related information in a device. Hence, to achieve a device's configuration, you must use "Global configuration," "Interface," and "Router" commands. The MAC address table is often connected to a Cisco switch in the same way as Ethernet ports hosts. Thus, every host that connects to a switch port usually has its MAC address captured in the switch's MAC address table. In summary, the MAC address table is used to map every port to a MAC address, consequently making it crucial in forwarding traffic to a host directly. Therefore, in the absence of a MAC address table, traffic forwarding would be possible only from each port, like in a hub's case (Dionicio, 2020).
