The Leopard
This is the story encompassing the lives of a Sicilian distinguished family, the House of Salina. Specifically the leader of the family, Prince Don Fabrizio Corbera ("the Leopard"), and how he and they are affected by the Italian unification or Risorgimento as Garibaldi and his thousand volunteers clear through Sicily, changing all in their way. Amid the opening scenes we see the Salina family taking rosary, and as is regularly the case all through the film, Visconti, and cinematographer Rotunno dish into their environment, their petition is off the screen, and the embroidered artwork of the shades blows internal toward them.
