Database Review
The sports database that I decided to review for the current project is for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and can be accessed at /en/stats. The database contains statistics on the performance of professional tennis players. I am a bit of an enthusiast of sports data and I found the database to be highly informative and detailed in terms of the data it contains. The database contains largely historical data on the performance of men professional tennis players. Upon landing on the website, one can access statistics on professional tennis players across several categories.
A review of the landing page shows that the visitor can access data on the players’ performance from 1991 up to the current year. In addition, the performance data can be sorted based on the type of surface. Further, the database presents data on three main aspects of the tennis game; serve, return, and play under pressure. For example, Nick Kyrgios is the serve leader, Daniil Medvedev is the leading player in the return aspect of the game by statistic, and Novak Djokovic is the leader in the under-pressure aspect of the game. A further review of the website indicates that one can access the performance statistics of each player based on their country of origin.
Notably, the website is valuable as one can access data that can be used to shape one’s understanding of the important aspects of the game. A tennis coach can use the data to determine the advisable area of focus when training a player.
