The time component of autobiographical connotation is explored in this chapter. Brockmeier elucidates the autobiographical experience as a narrative thread of temporality whose principal goal is to produce a tapestry of meaning that connects us into a sociocultural context rather than situate us in a predetermined, sequential setting of calendar and clock time. A concept of autobiographical time is provided that arose with twentieth-century modernism, challenging the Newtonian notion of factual time as a permanent backdrop of all human activities, including memory and forgetfulness.
