Priyanka views the stress she undergoes in her family as the cause of her illness. Priyanka’s psychosis emanated from the pressure from his husband because their culture required them to be extra submissive, be sexually active, and engage in sex with a man she barely knew, which may cause fear and anxiety. Priyanka’s sickness was linked to the emptiness she felt without his husband. The rejection and separation from her husband created a more emotional and physical distance that left her depressed since she had developed an emotional attachment. Marrow (59) explains that the Indian health professionals pinned many depression cases from the families were as a result of such living, which in most cases caused psychosis. In many families, the mental disorder was described as a violation of the norms of femininity (Marrow 62). Priyanka preferred her explanation because it was unbiased compared to what the rest of the families allegedly said. They harassed and depressed her but claimed she was lazy, disrespectful, and unhygienic.
