Coursework Instructions:

I am selecting you again as the preferred writer since you did the previous assignment (00163088) and is a continuation of it. Please use word doc as directions. Please use pdf's as course readings and sources. Thanks!

Provide a 150 word minimum response to each of the 2 postings of the classmates in regards to questions A and C.

Please note you can agree or disagree in your response with any of the responses from the classmates as long as you back it up with explanation and facts. You must use at least 1 source from class readings for each response at minimum and 2 other sources from class or outside of class.

(Questions A and C responses below have done citations appropriately).

Note:  “You should be addressing and engaging with your classmates directly vice just critiquing what they wrote as the rest of the class did”. This is what my professor said, so please keep in mind when responding.

  • QUESTION A: Compare and contrast the different leadership traits and principles offered by the different services. Which service does the best job at capturing the essential aspects of leadership? Why? Are there any traits and principles missing from the lists offered by the different services that you would add? Why?
  • QUESTION C: Where in the military do we need a Wallenberg?

Justify and support your answer using your experience and source support from the assigned readings.

Response to Arod: Question A
I agree with Arod that all services emphasize training, experience, and education to develop leadership competencies. In particular, these leadership competencies include self-awareness, accountability, aligning values, team building, diversity management, effective communication, problem-solving, conflict management, and innovation among others (“Coast Guard Leadership Competencies” n.d., 4). Different services capture unique leadership competencies. For example, the Army leader is expected to handle responsibilities depending on the rank, which prioritizes respect, conflict management, and problem-solving. The individual must accomplish assigned roles and influence his or her followers to meet the organizational goals. The leader should motivate individuals to pursue actions and make decisions for the greater benefit of the organization (“Army Doctrine Reference FM 6-22” n.d., 21). I concur with Arod that some vital principles and lists that are missing from different services include critical thinking and risk-taking. Notably, critical thinking should be emphasized since it entails robust thinking whose primary goal is having an in-depth understanding of things or situations (Guillot 2004, 37). Besides, critical thinkers are outstanding decision-makers.
