In an interview, Carol Ann Tomlinson an educator and President of the National Association for Gifted Children, describes her work in Differentiated Instruction, how it can be practically applied in the classroom, advice to teachers looking to apply Differentiated Instruction in the classroom, and her book Differentiation and the Brain (Hawker Brownlow Education, 2013).
Importantly, Carol discusses that the long-perceived impression that differentiating instructions is complex is mental and perception. She argues that differentiation in classroom is not hard, what is hard is breaking old habits that teachers have been made to believe that it is hard. Additionally, she insists that differentiation is the ability to monitor students' style and comprehension levels before designing a lesson plan. It is a method that is student-oriented and requires practice to be successful.
Further, Carol advises teachers on how to make differentiation instructions a success. First, she argues that teachers should envision the goal they want to achieve and the reward.
