An assembly line refers to an appropriate arrangement of equipment, human resource, and machines in different stages of production, in order to develop a finished product. Over the past few decades, the world has embraced snacks and cakes in amazing ways. Many people have become passionate for different types of cakes, with cupcakes becoming more popular within the western societies. Different people take cupcakes for different purposes with enjoyment and fun being the dominant reasons. Due to the ever-rising demands of cupcakes across the world, there has been a dire need to increase its supply. As a result, many stakeholders in the food and beverage industry have developed a number of strategies with which to enhance better production of cupcakes.
The assembly line for manufacturing cupcakes involves various operations at different stages of its production. It includes a number of stages of productions, among them the collection of the required ingredients, mixing the ingredients appropriately, taking the mixtures into the manufacturing machines, packing ready products, preserving them, and then distributing them into the markets (Smith, 2011).
Ingredients are vital for the production of cupcakes. The collection of appropriate ingredients of the required quality and quantity is the first step of the assembly line for manufacturing cupcakes. It is at this stage that the manufacturers determine the quality, quantity, and the flavor of the products. Some of the main ingredients used in the production of cupcakes include butter or margarine (often softened at room temperature), caster sugar, eggs, milk, self-raising flour, food coloring, salt, and other flavors such vanilla extracts (Wilson, 2011). At this stage, specialists in cake making mix the ingredients in appropriate proportions on the verge to produce a mixture that would give a finished product with the required taste, size, and color. Manufacturing of good-quality cupcakes requires the use of specific equipment of the standard cookery. Among the main equipment required are the sheet pans or cupcake pans, electric or hand mixers, measuring cups and spoons, depositors, oven thermometers and transfer pumps. Furthermore, the advanced manufacturing of the product, especially in large quantities, require additional equipment that is relatively complex, including cupcake decorating machines, portioning equipment for butters and fillings, and cookie machines (Miller, 2004). Each of the above-mentioned equipment has a specific function at a given stage of production of cupcakes.
Specialists in cookery procedures form a fundamental part of the assembly line of manufacturing cupcakes. All procedures in stages of production require direct effort of qualified and experienced caterers. Competent cooks determine the quantity of each ingredient under use and the quality of the ingredients to be used.
