Summary of the case
The case titled What a Fraud!; basically talks about misrepresentation and fraud engaged by job applicants with the hope of getting the job. According to the case, the economy is currently tight and job candidates are actually competing to secure employment. Due to few available jobs and stiff competition amongst applicants, there would be a rise in the number of job candidates who would lie about their credentials and their background hoping that this falsification would assist them in getting the job. The article reveals that the falsifications may entail fabrication of a degree, shifting a college major, or even altering the date of birth. In addition, the job applicants might also misrepresent their criminal records. These falsification, be they major falsehoods or just little white lies, amount to fraud and it would actually be engaged in by roughly 30% of job candidates.

I think that fraud on resumes and job applications is an important issue for organizations. This is because job candidates who falsify their resumes in most cases become workers who misrepresent and lie about issues on the job. Resume fraud costs organizations an estimated $600 billion each year as faked qualifications cause organizations fiscal damage (Thomas, 2013). They can also lead the organization into regulatory as well as reputational trouble if an individual is in a position for which he or she is not qualified. Telling lies regarding one’s experience and/or qualifications could result in a significant violation of trust and question the sincerity as well as truthfulness of an individual (Thomas, 2013). The image of the organization may be tarnished severely the moment a worker’s falsification is found out. Publicity regarding the lie of a worker would cast a negative light on the organization, especially if the member of staff is in a post of high rank.
