After a thorough reading and critical review of the case "the Pursuit of Happiness", many issues touching on Organizational behavior and management present themselves one of them being job flexibility, engraved in Flexible Work Arrangements. Flexible work arrangements refer to the work programs whereby the employees are given freedom to preside over the fulfilment of their job obligations (Buchanan & Huczynski, 2010). Such arrangements include working part time, flexibility in the start and finish times, working extra time to compensate for time an employee might have taken off, flexibility in work location and much more.
Flexible work arrangements are not only specific to certain individuals. Given situations can make one opt for these arrangements and thus any employee can be attracted to these arrangements. Gottlieb & Kelloway (2010) say that having parental responsibilities at home, arising issues of disability, experience of violence by an employee from family members and cases of old age are some of the circumstances under which an individual can apply for flexible work arrangements from the employer. No one ever knows when such kind of an issue betides them and if it does, attraction to these arrangements definitely pops up. Many ruling governments have also made it into law that any employee has a legal right to call for flexible working. The case under study also puts into record that a greater number of US female employees have embraced these arrangements, while employees from Southeast Asian view it as a want. This case itself is a sample evidence illustrating that any individual can be attracted to flexible working.
Flexible work arrangements constitute characteristics that contribute to job satisfaction increased levels. Some of the characteristics include: Flexible work arrangements enhance improved work family balance, therefore interference between family and work cease leading to a reduction in work family conflict that promotes greater family and job satisfaction (Zeytinoglu, 2011).
Another characteristic is that, flexible work arrangements promote improved physical and mental well-being.
