Initially, AT&T was a service-oriented communication business, but currently the corporation is a market-oriented mobile wireless company (Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson, 2013). The Denison Organizational Culture Survey has been applied to rate the cultural characteristics of the AT&T corporation. Based on the assessment benchmark evaluated, it is identified that AT&T mobile company is based on a market-oriented culture. The rating scheme assesses three aspects: first is consistency, which examines the nature of internal culture of the company. Secondly, adaptability that aims to determine the company’s ability of adapting rapidly to responses from the external environment, as well as the marketplace and customers’ expectations. The third aspect is mission which aims to examine whether the organization has a clear purpose that define its long-term objectives and goals.
Matrix (2006) opines that AT&T communication business is founded on market-oriented culture in which all employees are dedicated to the continuous production of quality valued services and products for customers. The culture commits employees to understand the needs of the target customers and aims to understand strategies for potential ways of satisfying the target consumer. The company is focused on developing knowledge to create quality products. Furthermore, the organization emphasizes inter-functional coordination among employees and all departments for the purpose of producing superior customer value. AT&T Company promotes workforce diversity, retains and attracts best talents to create most innovative solutions and products to fulfill the customers’ needs. The company promotes teamwork to perform organizational functions and production of superior products (Matrix, 2006). Its management framework is based on inclusion and diversity strategy that aligns its leadership priorities and business objectives in major areas including supplier diversity, community impact, multicultural marketing, and workforce inclusion. The organization emphasizes accountability and leadership action to achieve its success. The company embraces diversity and therefore is flexible to respond on changes on customers’ demands, market reality and external environment.
