Think carefully about your experiences working on this team, and how the concepts in the background materials apply to your experiences.   1. Did Tuckman’s five stages of group development apply to your team? Did some of the stages apply but not others? Explain your reasoning with specific experiences that your team faced.
  2. How would you rate the cohesiveness of your team? Was it not very cohesive, or was it too cohesive to the extent that your team suffered from groupthink?
  3. Based on what you’ve read in the background materials, what do you think could have been done differently with this team to improve its performance?

I was assigned to work as part of a youth team that run a private enterprise. I was assigned to the task problem solving teams. One of the important lessons I leant working in the team was that forming a successful team is more than just throwing a collection of people in concert, conveying as a duty, and hoping for the most excellent outcome. Hence, probable team members were needed to be interviewed and our ability and familiarity had to be assessed (Wellington, 2012).
The criteria that was used in selecting team members include: individual’s inspiration with high opinion to both the team and the duty at hand, attitudes and objectives of probable team member, probable tribulations with intragroup associations, and last but not least probable tribulations with associations with extra groups (Garfoot, 2003). We established our team’s mission at the beginning of the project. This is to make a decision the goals of the team and how you will achieve those goals. Then we choose team members who would contribute most excellently to the assignment (Sadri, &Condia, 2012).
Tuckman’s five stages of group development applied to our team. Some of the stages that were applied to our team include; forming where an individual relation was characterized by confidence. Collection members relied on secure and attractive behavior. We sought the assistance of group manager when we needed direction. To develop from this stage to the next, every member had to surrender the reassurance of a non- threating subjects (Aswathappa, 2010).
