Assignment Instructions

For the Module 5 SLP think about a time when your supervisor or another senior manager in your workplace was replaced.  Carefully reflect on the issues and challenges involved in this leadership transition, and think about how the background readings apply to this experience.  Then write a 2-page paper addressing the following issues:

  1. Describe the circumstances in which this manager was replaced.  What led to this person being replaced, and how was a successor chosen?
  2. Was the transition smooth, or were there difficulties involved?
  3. Choose one of the articles or book chapters from the background materials that you think would have been most useful for this leadership transition, and discuss how you think one or more of the concepts from this article or book chapter could have been applied in your workplace.

Describe the circumstances in which this manager was replaced. What led to this person being replaced, and how was a successor chosen?
There was a time that I was working in another company and all of the sudden the top manager was replaced by another under the following circumstances. The company’s performance was going down and also there were low sales in the market that were associated with low profits and even at times losses. This would lead to poor performance of the company and this led to the replacement of the top manager as he was considered a non-performer in his duration of duty in office. The following are the reasons that led to the replacement of the manager by another (Krass, 2000).
At first the manager was accused of abuse of office by neglecting some of his duties as a manager and this is one of the reasons that was leading to the failure of the company and hence the solution was to replace the manager with another one. He was also accused of other misconduct like mismanagement of funds that he used and was never accounted for in the books of accounts. The manager travelled in places that were not specifically in line of duty with the company funds.
The manager had also allowed recruitment of low skilled employees in his favor leaving out qualified employees; this led to low performance and production of low quality goods as the employees were of low quality and hence the company had recorded low profits (Strebel, 1992). His successor was chosen through interviews that were carried out by the rest of the company management. The successor was selected on grounds of experience and academic qualifications.
