How I participated as a fan this week was by watching The Greatest Showman. This movie covers the story of how the Barnum and Bailey Circus came into existence and the struggles the circus had to go through in order become successful. I recommend watching the movie because even if someone doesn't like the movie, the person could potentially like the music that is sung in the movie.
After watching the movie Fever Pitch, I have realized how easy it is for someone to become completely obsessed with something. In the movie Fever Pitch, Ben is completely obsessed with the Red Sox. It becomes so bad that he starts misses some awesome opportunities in order to watch the games. He also become upset when he does miss a game where the Red Sox had one of the greatest comebacks in history. This type of fan obsession is called hyperfan. This is when someone becomes overly obessed with something and is very extreme about the obsession.
The reading and the movie Fever Pitch informed my own position about what it means to be a fan because I do not believe I have ever been a hyperfan about anything. I believe being a hyperfan is unhealthy and doesn't truly represent what it means to be a fan. From the readings, I learned that being a fan is enjoying someone you like and continue to pursue that pleasure of yours. (50 words comments)

I participated in a fan this week by watching the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics play basketball in the playoffs. You can clearly see throughout this series both teams giving it their all and trying to survive and advance. Even if one did not like basketball they could enjoy it because they see the effort these athletes are putting in and relying on each other. It was easy to relate to Ben from Fever Pitch, because I am sort of Obsessed with Ohio State football. I don’t like missing games and I always take the opportunities to go to the games. I wouldn’t necessarily classify myself as a hyper fan but I do see some of tendencies in myself that hyper fans exhibit. The readings and Fever Pitch throughout the week allowed me know the differences in what it means to be a healthy and when it can be unhealthy, like Ben from Fever Pitch. I have learned that there can be many different types of fan and different levels. Also fans can like many different things and the intensity of those things can vary.(50 words comments)
