Introduction
The effective and successful delivery of an oral presentation depends on the method of delivery and the level of presentation. Identifying a presentation method compatible with the topic enhances the success of oral presentation. Being adequately prepared to conduct a speech reduces nervousness and enhances confidence to face the target audience. Preparation entails the selection of an appropriate topic suitable for the target audience to clearly understand the purpose of presentation and the most appropriate approach to effectively achieve your intended purpose. The four methods used in the delivery of oral presentation include memorization, manuscript, impromptu and extemporaneous that can be applied in different situations and to different audiences (Speech preparation guideline, 2008).
Presentation methods
The manuscript method involves speech presentation using text whereby the presented write the speech and practices on how it will be delivered to the target audience. The memorization technique entails the memorizing of a speech before delivery to allow speech presentation without reference to a script. The memorization method differs from the manuscript in that in memorization the speaker does not depend on a script and is able to actively move around at the stage while at the same time keeping continued eye contact with the audience. The manuscript method on the other hand requires constant reference to the written text and the speaker my sound rehearsed and may not be able to maintain eye contact with the audience. The impromptu method involves presentation through reference to notes and is commonly used in the delivery of a short speech whereby the present might not have enough time to prepare. It entails creating notes outlining the key points to facilitate the speech delivery. Impromptu method allows the presenter to be natural and maintain eye contact with his or her audience.
