For example, Cheetahs, tigers, and lions kept in zoos become cowardly. Besides, killing the mothers of these animals in front of them for hunting damages their brains to a considerable extent, like chimpanzees who spend their remaining life in captivity with poor mental health. Also, many animals begin neurotic behaviour like swaying, fast pacing, and crushing their heads in bars, which is a severe mental health problem. Many other studies show that smaller species like rodents and dogs suffer brain damage (Smith, 2014). Monkeys and elephants undergo such severe mental anxiety behind the bars that their mental disease has a name – zoochosis. It is undeniable that animals may also attempt suicide. Although they do not understand it, many deny food for many days in the torment of confinement, which may lead to their death. Also, many unintentionally try to injure themselves in quest of freedom, which may ultimately cause death (Smith, 2014). All in all, animals in zoos suffer psychologically too much that they might die of it after beginning neurotic behaviour.
