Introduction
Taking up a new project is one of the most interesting aspects of being a new student. It helps to broaden one’s thinking. At the same time, one is forced to think beyond their limits to make the project a success. I have been engaged in class project and this is a reflection of the entire experience. The reflection shall look at my experience during the project (reflection in action) as well as areas that require improvement (reflection on action.
Reflection in action
My project involved working with the community to promote a reading culture. It is one of the areas that is considered as an informal settlement. The project was individual and that posed the greatest challenge. It meant that I was to interact wit the community, form rapport so that together, we could kick-start the reading program.
This was the first time I undertook a project of this nature. All the projects that I have been involved previously were all group projects. This made it easy as often we would share ideas and divide the various tasks. This time it was different. I had to undertake everything solely. Undertaking a project as an individual had its fair share of challenges and benefits. One of the challenges I experienced was doing everything alone. Sometimes it almost felt overwhelming. It is as if I needed to be in multiple places at the same time. I must, however, acknowledge the fact that decision making on various issues was pretty fast. This is because I did not need to consult anyone when making any decision. This helped in saving time which is not always the case in group projects.
The project also took a lot of time as follow-up with the community was crucial. Being a reading program, constant follow-up is inevitable to ensure that people carry on with that culture. The area that the project covered was quite vast and making follow-up consumed quite a lot of time. The intended results from the project was o ensure that more than half of the community adopt the culture of reading.
