It is never too early to instigate building a career development strategy, in my understanding; this is an effort that persists throughout one’s professional career or an ongoing endeavor in one’s life. Building of my career in the field of medicine began right from the day I decided to be a health worker. Some of the values that I see worth and advocate for include blending of family and career, clear expectation, recognition, clear rules, mental challenge, involvement in decision-making, competition, a regular 40-hour work week salary, freedom from pressure, quality products, cultural diversity in the workplace, flexible work schedules and security. These principles boost honesty, respect, discipline, creativity, humility, mutual trust, effective communication, compassion, good teamwork and collaboration. Mainly my values align with standard healthcare management positions. For instance, they enhance honesty, an outstanding value in the administration of health workers. Additionally, health staff workers value effective communication including transparency in decision making or problem solving. Thus, honesty is vital for improvement of care services, and it also enhances mutual trust and teamwork. On the other hand, with respect, healthcare administrators will treat all staffs with a caring consideration and their diverse perspectives will be valued.
Team leaders should lead by example; hence, health managers should be disciplined to enhance control in their organization. Tackling new problems creatively is thrilling; therefore, every health administrator should encourage creativity. The collaboration will ensure a unified and integrated approach to care.
