Nursing is one of the most important disciplines in society because it entails providing care for human life. Leadership within the profession is very important since nurses play an increasingly major role in health care (Finkelmann, 2013). The objective of this essay is to conduct a self assessment of nursing leadership skills and to discuss how some of these skills can be utilized to bring about change within an organization.
Strength and Weaknesses
Personal and Professional Accountability
According to the nurse manager skills inventory, I am still a novice in terms of professional accountability since am only a student and I currently don’t have any certification or professional association involvement. Nevertheless, I am developing as a future nurse since the nursing classes I am enrolled in at the moment will lead me to the next level of professional practice. Furthermore, the personal development which I am obtaining through education is guiding my ethical growth and knowledge which will eventually translate in practice.
Career Planning
In terms of career planning, I have a lot of strengths because currently am learning a lot about my future role as a nurse. The nursing job has gone under a lot of change in the last several decades and the current learning curriculum has given me a firm understanding of current nursing description and requirements. In terms of career planning, my plans are very specific and industry specific and as a result, my current path is structured to make me effective in the health care industry my services will be needed.
