Hospitals strive to be more sustainable by promoting good public health practices. As a manager in a health facility, essential services provided should focus on saving energy as a priority because hospitals consumes unnecessary energy . The facility can use renewable energy from any natural source of energy. Introducing healthy food programs comprising of balanced diets and encouraging low fat foods would be important. Having a recycling program to generate discarded materials from the facility is also one of the initiatives that would conserve natural resource, and reduce pollution (Wilson &Garcia, 2011).
Benefits
Recycling programs that generate energy reduces energy consumption because energy is recycled. In addition to this, hospital operational can run effectively when alternate power sources are introduced to curb the cost of power loss. Climate change initiatives aimed at reducing carbon pollution, reduces infection related to warm temperature like asthma that already affects 9% of children worlwide. Furthermore, healthy food initiative will ensure that hospitals practice good nutrition, which might reduce diseases related to diet like obesity and hypertension (Wilson &Garcia, 2011).
