A literature review analyzes how current research supports the PICOT, as well as identifies what is known and what is not known in the evidence. Students will use the information from the earlier PICOT Statement Paper and Literature Evaluation Table assignments to develop a 750-1,000 word review that includes the following sections:

The shortage of nurses has often been a repeated theme in literature. This has always been a looming issue and ill-defined rather than being presented as an issue which needs contemporary and effective interventions. The assessment of the current information on the supply of nurses in developed countries is an indication to put the whole world on notice that indeed the problems of nursing shortage is already with us. In fact, the situation might get worse without proper interventions, which cannot necessarily be solved by having in place more trained nurses (Buchan, Duffield & Jordan, 2015). This paper analyses the literature the nursing interventions that underpins fall prevention in health facilities.
A comparison of research questions
The shortage of nurses is an issue that is experienced globally (Chan, Tam, Lung, Wong and Chau (2013). Indeed, it is a problem and if left unresolved, could lead to very serious effects in terms of the provision of quality healthcare (Cho, Park, Choi, Lee & Kim, 2017). Therefore, understanding the implication that make nurses to abduct their profession or services is very significant if the efforts that are geared towards enhancing their retention are to be effective. In fact, inefficiency of nurses leads to serious problems to patients, especially those who are in critical care units (Brown, 2014). Such problems include patient falls. In view of this, Miake-Lye, Hempel, Ganz and Shekelle (2013) conducted a systematic literature review on the inpatient prevention of falls programs as a safety strategy for patient. The study argues that long stays of patients due to the shortage of nurses leads to falls which in turn results in approximately 30-50% in-facility injuries. The study further reveals that falls are associated with high health care utilization; which include higher levels of discharge from health facilities to long term care facilities as well as increased length of stay. In fact, it is argued in the article that even the incidents which do not lead to the cases of injury can lead to fear of falling, distress, reduced physical activity and anxiety. Furthermore, Bechdel, Bowman and Haley (2014) examined falls prevention by the application of healthy work environment standards to fall complain status. It states that the efforts that lead to the elimination and reduction of falls within long term and acute clinical care facilities are indeed one of the nationwide priorities for healthcare organizations. The study reveals that the nurses’ experience difficulties to control patient safety concerns related to fall prevention. The study further states that the identifiable factors that leads to falls were layout and design, stuff turnover and inexperience, different types of physical rotation, management turnover, lack of staff ownership and awareness, and lack of an effective fall resource unit team.
