1 What are some common uses and applications of computers in nursing and health care?
Computers are gaining popularity in most institutions. The invention of microcomputers has revolutionized individuals since they are readily available at affordable costs. They are currently being utilized in health care facilities as diagnostic tools and equipment (Eskandari et al., 2019). Computers offer security and confidentiality to patients’ health records since only specific health providers and patients can access them. This has an advantage to files stored on shelves and cabinets that can easily be accessed and destroyed. A computer keeps the clients’ records organized, secure, and easily accessible.
Computers have also been utilized in theater rooms to save lives to accomplish delicate procedures and post-surgery monitoring. Mobile technological devices in theater rooms play a vital role in the success of clinical operations by aiding smooth navigation through consultation, record keeping, drug debate, patient diagnosis, and prescription documentation (Eskandari et al., 2019). The informatics tools lead to faster communication between departments, increased patient safety due to reduced clinical errors, and efficient charting. The technology enhances nurses’ management outcomes, captures individual health records, treatment plans, and patients’ responses and progress after discharge.
2 How have computers and technology changed the way we practice nursing and deliver health care?
Currently, many healthcare facilities have employed the use of computers in record keeping. The electronic records contain the medical history of the patients, progress notes, and the medications administered (Rouleau et al., 2017). The computers transformed the procedures and method of record-keeping from using shelves to using databases; for easy retrieval of patient history and decreased chances of clinical and human errors.
Computer technology helps hospitals improve the quality of care and services offered by recording important real-time information (Rouleau et al., 2017). They can then share the data instantly with their updates on medical history and enhance excellent tracking of procedures and billing methods. Nurses can easily retrieve patients’ medical records using computer systems regardless of the location they were in. The patient can receive high-quality care by electronically submitting ECG and chest x-ray to on-call professionals off-site. The result is an excellent delivery of medical services.
3 What is the impact of computers and technology on nursing and health care?
Technology in nursing has significantly impacted on the quality of services and patient-centered services. Digitalized health records replaced cumbersome paperwork and reduced time consumption (Kumari, 2019). The introduction of computers has been a game-changer in the healthcare profession. The medical profession is currently a handful role t...
