Abstract
This project is made up of 5 phases. The first phase entails identifying a problem. The problem identified is hypertension (HTN) in adults; persons aged 18 years and older. HTN is known to raise an individual’s risk for getting stroke or developing heart disease; the 2 chief causes of death for American adults. In order to address this problem, the solution that is proposed is for the hypertensive individual to do regular exercises to reduce high blood pressure (HBP). Approximately 67 million persons or 1 in three American adults have HBP. Nearly 47 percent of individuals with this medical condition have their condition under control (Jorge & Paula, 2012).
The second phase is about incorporating theory and the theory that can be utilized in supporting my proposed solution is Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory. This theory was formulated by Dorothea Orem because of her working towards her objective of enhancing the quality of nursing in general hospitals within her state. It is of note that Orem’s theory comprises 3 components which are related: theory of nursing system; theory of self-care deficit; and theory of self-care. This theory supports my proposed solution in that an adult with hypertension will need to engage in self-care by choosing to do exercises and physical activities in order to reduce their high blood pressure.
The third phase of this project basically entails developing an implementation plan: Well-controlled studies have illustrated substantial drop in blood pressure following aerobic exercise programs. In this project, the change would be included into the existing organizational culture, structure as well as workflow by the executives and top management who will espouse a set of values that would incorporate the change into the current structure, culture as well as workflow.
