Journal Entry Nursing Reflection Student: Professor: Course title: Date: It was just last week when our professor gave us homework to find a relevant research paper in our school library. I had not yet reviewed my PowerPoint nor checked my professor’s requirement clearly but I just decided to pop into the school library to check for the topic which I thought was interesting enough. After that, I handed over my homework to my professor so that she could evaluate it. Unfortunately, she told me that what I had presented was not actually a research paper. This made me to turn to my classmates so that they can give me more advice on what I was supposed to do. Jenniffer, my classmate wrote on the black wall the professor’s requirement and the research topic. We also checked and reviewed the PowerPoint presentation with her concerning the requirements of that research paper. Returning to the library for the second time, I now came out with a real research paper to the satisfaction of my professor. From these happenings, I came to understand that I had to get everything clear before doing anything, lest I end up doing nothing at all. Furthermore, I also knew that Clarification of the requirements and critical thinking are two elements important to a nurse student for her or him to achieve his or her goal. According to Facione (1990), critical thinking refers to a focused judgement that is self regulated. In nursing practice, the aspect of critical thinking is an integral part of this system. This is because the nurse practitioner regularly encounters complicated situations that require precise judgements, consistent learning and clinical decision making.
