Since the introduction of radiology in 1895 by Wilhelm Rantgen, medical radiography including dental radiology has evolved to exceed common boundaries. Dental radiography has switched from conventional films to digital. However, many dentists still use traditional radiography. This paper will compare and contrast traditional and digital dental radiology.
Generally, traditional and digital radiology are similar in several ways. They are initially expensive to buy, install, and train the staff to use.
Digital dental radiology is different from traditional dental radiology in many ways. Firstly, digital film is fast produced for viewing while the traditional film is time-consuming. Secondly, the digital film uses less (70%) radiation to process a similar image produced by traditional fill (Blendl, Stengel, & Zdunczyk, 2000). Thirdly, you can improve the digital image by altering brightness as well as contrast using different processing techniques, unlike traditional imaging which cannot be changed.
